Dustin T. Cain, P.S.

Mr. Cain began his surveying career in 2005 when he enrolled in the Civil, Surveying, & Mapping program at Louisiana Technical College. After graduating from the program, he began his in-field experience with C&C Technologies in the summer of 2007.

After working several years with the company and discovering his passion for surveying, Dustin left C&C to pursue his bachelor’s degree in Geomatics at Nicholls State University so that he could become licensed as a professional surveyor. After graduation in the fall of 2012, he rejoined C&C to begin his mentorship and later became a Professional Surveyor in Louisiana and Texas.

During his time at C&C, Dustin performed surveys including, but not limited to, large GPS networking projects, COE/Coastal Use Permitting, hazard surveys for the O&G industry, pipeline management, and others.

At the beginning of 2016, Southern Survey Services, LLC was born with the desire to one day be a competitive and diverse survey firm in the Lafayette area with outreach to various states.


Brandon C. Herpin, P.L.S.

Brandon Herpin began his surveying career in 1995 while working as a rodman on local boundary survey projects. In 1996, He enrolled in the Civil, Surveying, and Mapping program at Louisiana Technical College. He graduated in the fall of 1997 and since that time has worked continuously in the survey market gaining experience not only in the boundary and construction market but the public sector as well.

Brandon has extensive experience in the Oil & Gas industry and has performed pipeline location and depth of cover surveys, proposed well locations, route surveys, wellhead inspection surveys, magnetometer clearance surveys, MS1000 scanning sonar inspections, side-scan sonar surveys, and bathymetry mapping.

He completed the sonar training course at Santa Barbara Community College in 2006 and underwater acoustics training at Northwest Michigan College Great Lakes Campus in 2012.


Paul E. Briley, P.L.S.

Paul began working as an instrumentman and has worked himself through the ranks to become a project manager. He gained an enormous amount of land survey experience during those years and became very proficient with conventional equipment. He is capable of running a conventional survey crew for all aspects of the oil & gas industry.

In addition to the day-to-day activities associated with his project management duties, Paul is also very proficient with courthouse / legal research duties for land boundary surveys. He acquired his PLS license in 1997 from the Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.


James L. Richard

Prior to joining Southern Survey Services in 2016, James worked for C & C Technologies and C. H. Fenstermaker and Associates in Lafayette, Louisiana. He started working for CHF after graduating from the Civil, Surveying, and Mapping program at Louisiana Technical College in 2003 and worked his way from Instrumentman to Party Chief and finally to Autocad Operator in those years.

He gained an enormous amount of land survey experience and became proficient in conventional and GPS surveys and equipment. James has been Party Chief on numerous pipeline surveys that included the Denbury Greenline Pipeline, Denbury Delhi Pipeline, Preliminary and as-built pipeline surveys for multiple oil & gas companies, several Haynesville Shale well locations, and pipeline staking projects. Some of the types of surveys performed for Southern Survey are:
